Prevent your Computer from Virus

We all know viruses and spyware can damage your computer and can give you some kind of mental trauma. Now you will ask how a computer virus can give you mental headache. Let me explain, suppose you want to do some financial transaction or want to email someone on internet and your internet browser keep crashing or windows explorer is not responding or computer is running like a snail, then you are going to frustrated.
You will shock to known that 70% of virus or other malware comes from inserting other people’s pen drive or thumb drive onto your PC. So how to prevent viruses from attacking your computer?
Well there is a simple solution to this problem. In Windows Operating System there is feature called Autorun, which automatically executes a program from a pen drive or other removable drives like CD or DVD if there is an AutoRun instruction file on that removable drive. This feature is enabled by default. Viruses make good use of this AutoRun feature and make themselves as default AutoRun executable program. This is how viruses spread from one friend’s computer to his entire friend’s computer.
Follow these simple steps to disable Autorun on computer
- Click start button -> Run or press windows + R.
- Type gpedit.msc
- Navigate your way through User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> AutoPlay Policies
- Now double click the Turn off AutoPlay label. A dialog box will appear.
- Check the enable button and click apply, then click Next Setting button.
- Follow the same step, check enable, then apply, then click Next Setting button.
- Follow the same step twice more until the Next Setting button is greyed out.
- After completing again navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> AutoPlay Policies.
- Repeat the steps 4, 5, 6, 7.
- Restart your computer.
Now AutoRun has been disabled on your computer. Now if you insert a pen drive and there is an AutoRun program or virus it won’t be executed.
